ARCIC III The Anglican Roman Catholic International Commission Conversations A preparatory committee met on 23rd November 2009 at the Anglican Centre in Rome to prepare the third phase of the Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission (ARCIC). It has been decided that this phase will begin within the coming year. It will deal with fundamental questions regarding the Church as Communion - Local and Universal, and how in communion the local and universal Church comes to discern right ethical teaching.
THE ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY MEETS POPE BENEDICT Archbishop Rowan Williams and Pope Benedict met on 21st November in what was described as “cordial discussions in which attention turned to the challenges facing all Christian communities at the beginning of this millennium, and to the need to promote forms of collaboration and shared witness in facing these challenges.”
CARAVITA The Archbishop of Canterbury preached at Evening Prayer on 20th November at Caravita, the International Catholic Community in Rome. Anglican Centre Director, David Richardson, describes it as “a great occasion at a significant time and a mark of the strength of ecumenism here in Rome.” The Service was followed by a Reception at the Anglican Centre.

THE RT REVD ERIC KEMP Bishop of Chichester until 2001 and Chairman of the Friends of the Anglican Centre, Dr Eric Kemp, has died at the age of 94. Bishop Edward Holland, current Chairman of the Friends, writes: “Bishop Eric has been a leading supporter of the Anglican Centre in Rome from the very early days in its life and was a crucial voice at a time when it looked as though the financial support that was needed for its continuation might not be forthcoming. He was one of the founders of the Friends in order to ensure that it could be maintained. He stepped down as Chairman of the Directors of the Friends only three years ago. The Anglican Centre together with the whole Anglican Communion owes Bishop Eric a great deal for his steady enthusiasm and support for the Centre, its work and life.”
