On the 17th of June, the Director of the Centre, the Most Reverend Ian Ernest met with the Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, HE Msgr Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo. They had a most fruitful conversation as regards the work of the Academy and issues that today need the full attention of the Church. Emphasis was laid on the need to work together and to reaffirm our commitment to fight against modern forms of slavery. The Chancellor expressed his appreciation for the personal involvement of the Archbishop of Canterbury as he invests himself to be a prophetic voice in today’s world. The collaboration between the Institutions of the Anglican Communion and the Pontifical Academy allows both Churches to be of a common voice on issues that despise human dignity. The Chancellor offered three books to the ACR library and looks forward for further collaboration with the Anglican Centre in Rome.

On the 19th of June, Archbishop Ian Ernest as the Personal Representative of the Archbishop of Canterbury to the Holy See and Director of the ACR paid a courtesy visit to the President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, His Eminence Cardinal Kurt Koch.  It was a very cordial and friendly meeting which reveals a “great spirit of mutual accountability” towards our commitment “to walk and work together” on the road to Unity.

The conversations that were entertained touched on the ways and means we could build up new avenues of collaboration specially following the Covid19 pandemic. There was also a lot of sharing about the life of the World Wide Anglican Communion and the Roman Catholic Church. The Cardinal also expressed his satisfaction on the work of ARCIC and IARCCUM.
